Notes re website

Gill Jones; Gillian G Jones; Gill Knowles, BA, FSA. Jones for archaeological published work, Knowles informally and general use. I answer to either.

See the References list. ‘Jgg’ is short for Jones, G. G.

Working towards having pdfs of each report and each raw data file of archaeological work on animal bone remains. Before work was done on computer (1972 – 1989), I used A4 pages of squared paper, and could show lots of bones, >150, all on one page. The main record is on one page, with comments on the reverse; plus sheets for tooth data; and measurements. The order is cattle, sheep/goat, pig, other mammals, bird and unidentified. Some site pdfs include worked, pathology and/or butchery sketches. Where in pencil, it may appear faint on the screen, but it prints out legibly.

Method. See ‘AYPexamplepage’, see Method and Research, for the general recording method; and for zones ‘ZonesJgg’, a summary published in Jgg94a_732N_Norwich, p.37. These two pages are in the Introduction, ‘Intro01’, for each site.

A summary of the Jgg sites, ‘Reports summaries.mdb’, is a Microsoft Access database which can’t be put on the WordPress website. A link to it is given in the References section ‘Jgg Databases’. Excel summaries are in the References section and are shown for each site in the Introduction, ‘Intro01’, for each site.

Six later sites were recorded on Microsoft Access, see Jgg Databases. Work is being done asking permission to put a link to these on the website. Only Stafford Castle is already on ADS and has a doi (digital object identifier).

Current progress. Seven sites were submitted to ADS in November 2024. There are 30 sites from pre-computer days. Research articles, since these are mostly open access, have been added to the section Method and Research.
